Local laws vary. Call the Police in your home town. If you can find out who they are and how they did it, you should be able to press charges, assuming they did more than just read your mail.
If you did something that left them a clear path in (like walking away from a computer in a shared environment while logged on), it will be much harder to take legal action.
Change your passwords frequently. Log out when you are done and close the email reader application. If you are using web-based email close the browser, including ALL open browser windows.

Nothing at all unless he steals or she steals your info and uses it to steal your identity

You have to know the answers to these questions before you can do Anything legally. I am not sure that there are laws that protect your e-mail like that anyways but I am not a legal expert....
Reply:nothing. get over it and just get a new email address.
