i have not checked my email for a long time. i have over 300 emails in my inbox, but can not see any of them. when i attempt to check the mail it says error. i would be happy to even completely delete it all, but can't figure out how to. i need to clear this up quickly, as i can not use the email account at all at present. any suggestions?

You will see a little box that says beside: Clear all in blue letters.

Put a check mark on that box and hit delete.

That should do.

If you don't have access to your old e-mail account you can still delete your MySpace. This is what you can do.

If you do not have access to your old email account, please send us an email with the following:

The email address you want to change it to

The easiest way is to go to your question, click once on the url (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/answer... etc.) Right click, and select copy. open up your contact's profile, select send an email, then right click again, and paste your question's address into the body of the email. This will provide a link to your question. Send the email.

You can't guess at answers to the security question. YOU set up the security question and answer. The answer to the security question needs to be something that is fact, not made up. So try that. If it's been 90 days or longer since you've logged into that account, the account would have been rendered inactive. Sometimes accounts can be reactivated, but any folders created, emails stored or contacts you had when it was active, would be gone if the account is reactivated. They would not be retrievable.

To reactivate

1. Go to http://mail.yahoo.com

2. Type in your user name and password to log into your account.

3. You will be taken to a screen saying that your account has been deactivated.

4. At the bottom of the screen, click on the link that says "Reactivate my account without protection."

5. When prompted, re-enter your password.

6. You will be taken to your Yahoo Inbox.

Again... If your account has been deactivated, you will not be able to recover any messages, created folders or address book contacts you had accumulated before your account was suspended or deactivated.

Reply:Get a new email account (yahoo, gmail, etc.) and tell people this is your new address. Use the new address from now on. HOWEVER, for the OLD email account - set up email forwarding and forward any mail to that account to your new account. This way you don't miss any email and as you receive email on the old account, just let people know the NEW address and that it changed. Eventually, your old account will only receive junk mail and then you can delete it (the old account, and the junk mail)

Hi,

My wife's account on Yahoo was suspended a week ago, she get a message claiming its for 48 hours for her own protection, emails sent to her bounce back with message account is suspended.

I tried Yahoo's help, its free account, they keep sending me emails saying "...............wheels of progress are in motion...", they ask every two days for some clarifications, and still I am stuck. Any clue from anyone? Is Yahoo mail coming down?

Someone hacked into her account and was sending viruses using her name. Yahoo will suspend the account to investigate. She should probably just create a new account.

they say they allow to send attachment at maximum 50 MB. as others have mentioned, a receiver might have a problems to receive such a big file, so you need him/her to have a huge mailbox :)

image 1 ISP he gives Internet to 1000 people from this, 50 people send 50MB email in the same time... now do the math and imagine the bandwitch and the time u keep this bandwitch to the highest lvl, and now compare to google or any free email free provider thei have milions of people.

Second if u buy from an ISP one email account from what i know they all have limitation in the size of the email.

U need this limitation cas if u don't u will have a problem with this big emails.

Now i say like this u have 10MB on yahoo gmail whatever.

Split your files 50MB in 6 parts , u can do this with winrar winzip and so one, i use winrar and i make it self extract so

when my email reach the destination and all 6 files are in the same place with 2 click i will have all the 50 MB without the other person to have winrar on his machine.

So my point is split use selfextract and u will resolv this problem verry good.

Reply:I don't know of any webmail service that'll go as high as a 50mb file. You could try sending it from outlook or outlook express, that may get around the size limit but I doubt it. There is a site that you can upload files to and then send an email to whomever to download the file and its free:

Reply:Problem is that both the sender and receiver have to be capable to get/give such large emails. If everyone on the Internet sent emails like this the whole system would slow down and be useless ... like freeways if we all drive semi-trucks.

There is a program called split %26amp; uuencode that can send emails in pieces ... in other words there are programs that the sender %26amp; receiver can get that allows large files to be cut up and emailed in acceptable chunks and reassembled by the receiever.

If you just want to send large files try ftp or http instead. Or you can snail mail a CD.

Nothing you can do about it... . The site likely tried to email you for confirmation and, naturally you didn't get it. It will time out and the account will go away.

Just sign up again with the correct information and don't worry about it.
Reply:Just go back to that site and change your e-mail address. If it doesn't give that option, then cancel your account and start a new one.

Some email accounts can be deleted if you log into them on the provider's website. This isn't the case for all.

Most email accounts will be closed if they aren't used for a long time. Exceptions are ones attached to some other paid service, such as the one provided by your ISP. Mind you, the ISP is probably using it to send emails to you....

When you close an account, all email sent to it will bounce back and the email in the account will be deleted. The limbo status you refer to probably means that you can create a "new" account with that old handle because they won't let anyone else have it.

If you go to Yahoo help and ask "how do I close my account" it will detail all the specifics. It is very clear that no data is saved.

You should be able to export out addresses by selecting the adreesses you need and selecting the Import/Export option on the top right corner below the ad before the "Options". You should be able to export as a Yahoo format. Save the file to your computer. Now go to your account. Go to Addresses and select the same Import/Export option and now import the file you saved earlier.

You have two different ways in which you can close out your account. the first way is not to use it for 4 months and Yahoo! will deactivate it due to inactivity.

The second way you need to read the "Account Deletion" page thoroughly. When you delete an account you are deleting your complete ID. So that means you are losing Yahoo! ID, Mail address, and Profile names. We will also delete your account data and settings across the Yahoo! network. This includes the contents of your HotJobs, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Address Book, Yahoo! Also: don't forget to delete your 360 and pics and stuffs because once you delete your mail account, everything will closed with it and you will have no access to them (even if you could re-register your address months later as i did..) so if you wanna delete embarassing images on your 360 and personal entries, do it now before it's too late.. just a notice..

2 methods depending on circomstances.

method one

1) log into e-mail and click on options in the top right corner.

2) click on mail address

3) below the list there is an option that allows you to create a new free yahoo ID

method two

1) click on my account at the top of mail.yahoo.com or my.yahoo.com

2) click on create new sub account

3) fill in all required fields

4) (optional) log into new account and forward all e-mail to your primary e-mail

5) (optional) log into primary e-mail and click on options in the top right. then click on mail address

6) (optional) add a new account with your new e-mail address

7) when you create a new message there will be a drop down in the from field where you can choose what e-mail you wish to send from. all e-mail's sent to either address will come into the same account.
Reply:It depends on your ISP. Some providers allow you to setup multiple accounts, and usually have a web page where you can manage the accounts.

A new account will need a username, and a password. Once setup, you will have to go into your email program and configure the account with the right username, password, incoming and outgoing settings. Usually the ISP has a section where they tell you how to do this.

If your ISP doesn't allow multiple sub-accounts, you'll have to use something like hotmail or other email providers.

You should have received an email in your new account from Yahoo offering to transfer your email from your old account. They use a service provided by Trueswitch.

I know you spoke about your inbox only but, just in case: I found out the hard way that the service will NOT move the email you have in your sent folder. In order to transfer the messages in your sent folder you have to do the following:

1) Create a new custom folder in your old account (I called mine "old sent").

2) Move all of your sent items into the new custom folder.

Neither Yahoo or Trueswitch was of any help when none of my old sent items transferred to my new account; I had to figure this out on my own. Frustrating, to say the least.

Just sign up for another free account. You can register disposble e-mail addresses using address guard but if you want really good webmail then i think you should just sign up for one of their premium packages.

Like Gabriel said there is not anyway for you to determine if someone else has been accessing your account to read your email. You might check your "sent" folder" to see if they have used your account to send any mail, it may confirm your suspicions. Again back to Gabriel's answer follow his suggestions for changing your password.

If you owned the computer the email server was on you could check access logs and setup logon auditing and other things like that. But for hotmail if they know your password there is no way to tell if someone has been accessing it other than you.

Change your password to a complex (Upper, Lower, alpha, numeric and special characters) password and do not share it.

When you registered your SBC account you had 30 days to add a "Sub Account", after that period you cannot add to it! God knows why it's structured this way! Your accounts are "for-ever-after" now separate! You can't even pop the mail back and forth unless you purchase a Yahoo Plus account, and even then it's questionable! How SBC and Yahoo.com benefit from this policy who knows? Certainly the customer receives no benefit! Even with Outlook , Yahoo.com will not pop to any other mail accounts, so you can't even access them together in one location this way! No consideration for the client at all! Unfortunately, yes.

The most important thing in chosing an email provider is to chose one that let's you send and receive email.

Unfortunately, gmail is used quite often as a source field in spam. As such, the IP Address of the gmail servers keep getting blacklisted all over the internet.

What this means is that if you use gmail in sending email, it quite often does not get to the recipient.

I use gmail to receive email for certain accounts, but route the outbound email through another provider. This is because much of my email goes to corporations and many of them intermittantly blacklist gmails SMTP servers.

I am actually in the process of moving my domains email accounts to another provider with tighter controls on who sends mail from their servers.

Good Question. I wish google would get ontop of this battle as I like the interface. Bottom line, I need my email to work all the time, not just look nice.

So if someone, say, sends me a joke and I want to see all my list of contacts to think about who else might enjoy it, I can't do that. That's probably the only thing that bugs me about Gmail.

Reply:Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Javascript to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send recieve delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. Reply:You have put this question under POP mail but it sounds like you are using webmail, not Outlook etc.

If it is webmail, ie logging in on a web page, then it may be that your browser security will not let the web page write a Cookie.

If Internet Explorer look in Tools, Internet Options, Privacy. You may need to change this setting. Or you leave that setting and add your Mail Website in as "Always Allow".

What can i do legally to someone that has broke into my email account?

Local laws vary. Call the Police in your home town. If you can find out who they are and how they did it, you should be able to press charges, assuming they did more than just read your mail.

If you did something that left them a clear path in (like walking away from a computer in a shared environment while logged on), it will be much harder to take legal action.

Change your passwords frequently. Log out when you are done and close the email reader application. If you are using web-based email close the browser, including ALL open browser windows.
